Why this name?
I'm carrying on the name of a film character in 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (played by Owen Wilson). He's a spaced out writer who nobody really understands....which is sort of how I view myself.
Do you play live?
Oh yeah...anywhere with a mic and open ears...If people have an open mind and are looking for a good time my shows are the right place...Of course I like it....Special moments are looks of shock and cheers from the crowds when I start rappin' fast.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's opening up new channels for artists worldwide to be discovered by new fans and executives alike.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Odds are......but you won't see me pullin' a Fred Durst I'll tell you that....Signing the deal would be the furthest I'd go in 'selling out.'
Band History:
Beginning in 2000 as tongue-in-cheek rapper "Deez" of Racine, Wisconsin's own "Raytown Hustlas," Chris Krekling started lashing out against commercialized rap music. Along with fellow producer/partner Justin Kral (aka Jolly Taxpayer), they formed lowKey Productions to create their own style of hip-hop, and cause a buzz in their area for the first time. With thousands of copies circulating, that buzz has already spread from local to global due to heavy word of mouth support. As well as writing and producing six complete albums to this date, lowKey began producing and developing other rap artists as well by 2002. Now under the name "Eli Cash," Krekling began writing new - more personal - material, performing anywhere there were microphones or open ears. An Eli Cash website (elicash.com), designed entirely by Kral, gives fans access to exclusive cuts and design. Bringing an anti-authority, anti-mainstream mentality, Eli Cash aims to bring the original style of hip-hop back to the airwaves and beat the mainstream at its own game.
