Band/artist history
“I don’t do this to gain all y’all’s respect, I do it with the belief of when competing being one of the best” -- Benjamin Harris, Don't Get Mad Ol’GreenEyes, the talented offspring of an Anglo mother and an African-American father, was born Benjamin Harris in Mesa, AZ, 1983, and inherited the best of two diverse backgrounds. While Ben’s dad, Kenny Harris, attended a large predominately black high school in Gary, Indiana, his mom Cheryl Cunningham went to a predominately white school in Central Indiana. Intelligent, ambitious, and successful in their professions, both parents were committed to Ben's upbringing and well being. Dividing his time between small town Indiana with his mother and the large metropolis of Phoenix, Arizona with his father, Ben has developed a unique perspective. In Indiana, Ben enjoyed the slow-paced environment of the country. In Phoenix, Ben was introduced to BET and in comparison to his roots in Indiana, the 180-degree different world of middle class African-Americans. After a permanent relocation to Phoenix at 15, Ben finished High School at Desert Vista with an impressive list of accomplishments. While excelling in school, he was a model, rapper, basketball player, and record-breaking track star. Exemplifying Usher’s style and confidence, Ben is also a talented dancer. Demonstrating his unlimited potential, Ben also won prestigious art awards throughout high school. His tremendous ability to excel at all his endeavors has also proven true in his rap career. Introduced to rap by his best friend Chad and younger brother Troy, the three quickly formed the group Comen Dis’may. This Arizona sensation has gained an impressive following by performing in almost every hot spot in Phoenix. Honing his skills in the group has made Ol’Green a mature solo artist. His mix of rapid-fire battle style lyricism and anthem-like choruses have quickly made him one of the biggest names in the Arizona hip-hop scene. But in spite of the fame, Ol’Green remains grounded by keeping his parent's wise lessons in mind. His dad calls him "The Duke of Rap," reminding him that tattoos, earrings, and gunshot wounds don’t make Duke University basketball players better ballers, so they shouldn’t be needed to launch his rap career or gain approval from his friends. Echoing those ideas in his newly released song Keep Movin', Ol’Green relates, "Who said - you had to be coming from nothing to something? If I was happy and blessed as a child, does that mean that I would amount to nothing?" Considering his endless talent and extensive success, chances are that Benjamin Harris a.k.a. Ol'GreenEyes will be one of the greatest entertainers of his generation; and you had better “Get Used to It.”
