Why this name?
Roley is my nickname. Rolo sounds a bit better.
Do you play live?
I used to dj house parties in high school once in a while, but that was some time ago. I still dj if asked.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The interent is a nice way to get your music out there and listen to other people's stuff you normally would not hear locally or commercially. As far as buying music, I see CDs being phased out of the game by 2010. As long as you dont go 100% internet and take it for what it is, it's all good.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was good I would defintly sign a production deal with a major label or production company, its all good.
Band History:
Basically I always been into hip hop, and vinyl in general, my brother had all the o.g. hip hop 12"s, and the good ole disco & funk, Brick, Gap Band, Ohio Players, when I got older it was naturual to get into doing the music and spinning. I started spinning when I was 16, got a 4 track and a cheap Roland MS-1 sampler when I was 17, turned out a gang load of tapes unitl I was about 20, then I quit music altogether for 4 or so years, and got back into it about a year ago when i purchased my MPC.
Your influences?
Man, I could go on for days, Quincy Jones is the man, first and foremost, he can do pop and ill jazz without missing a beat (something folks like the NEPTUNES try to emulate but can't capture). Bob James, king of arrangements, Herbie Hancock, Curtis Mayfield, etc...I love anything with soul, bottom line. On the hip hop tip i'd be lying if i said Premier, Hi-Tek, DJ Spinna, and them dudes werent major influences. I think they feeling the same way I do, I can realte. Plus I love that ole' MPC sound, I'ma try to put a little west coast twist on the boom bap. Speaking of the west, I was always into that electro funk, since I was a kid, Egyptian Lover, Jonzun Crew, Mantronix - all the way up to the current king, Dr. Dre. I can't lie. I love all his stuff.
On the sound tip, I'm trying to go for that raw and big sound of early 70s rock, you know the sound of Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, and Led Zeppelin, thats the real.
You'll also catch me listening to The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. I dont discriminate.

Favorite spot?
I'm defintly feeling NYC, L.A. and my home turf, San Francisco, and anywhere tropical. Someone hook me up with a ticket to the Bahammas.
Equipment used:
My gear tends to change up a bit, but my current setup which has remained unchanged is a MPC3000, Akai s950, Korg Triton Rack,a cheap Casio as a midi controller & Pro Tools LE for recording and editing, plus tons of vinyl, skill and a couple of cheapo compressors and guitar pedals here and there.
Anything else...?
Hit me up if you want to purchase some beats or collab. No problems. I travel a bit to, so let me know where your at, maybe I'll be in town.
