Why this name?
That's what it says on my birth certificate!
Do you play live?
Borders Books & Music, Colleges, Kenny's Castways (NYC)...
If you make it big..?
I hope to be able to continue doing what I'm doing now, which is making music that makes me feel something.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet can be a great tool for promotion, but it's still just part of the equation. The industry is changing very fast. I just hope it changes for the better for indie musicians like myself!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Tough one! It would have to be a respectable deal. In the end, I probably would, if for nothing than the exposure the deal would provide. But the reasons for signing these days are shrinking...
Band History:
"Songwriting is an act of catharsis for me. It’s a way for me to say things I can’t say, or my way of finding closure," states Laura Diamond. But it isn’t always such serious business either as is evidenced by "Can I Be You" which takes a light and humorous look at the perception of beauty.

Hailing from New York, Laura spent her weekends in cover bands until heading up to Berklee College of Music after high school. After college, Laura eventually moved to the quiet of the Jersey Shore to concentrate on her songwriting and performing while making a living teaching piano and voice.

In 1995, she formed DIAMOND, an original pop-funk group that was starting to gain some notoriety. While they sounded great on-stage, off-stage was another story. "Everyone felt that only they knew how to run things, and there were a lot of fights. One night as I was dreading rehearsal, it hit me that I don’t have to do this."

Taking time to reassess things, Laura spent the next year and a half practicing and writing. After a lot of soul searching and support from friends, she made the tough decision to go solo and began production on “Adonis…and other romantic delusions” (release date: August 3rd). Drawing on the influences from her college days, Adonis… borrows some jazz harmonies, and blends them with a lot of pop sensibilities to create a highly listenable and enjoyable record.

If Laura had any doubts as to whether she had made the right decision on the outset, they’re gone now. "It was a terrifying prospect, to have to produce this record on my own. But fortunately, no solo effort is truly an act of one, and the support that came from all the people that I worked with made the process extremely enjoyable. In the end I can sit back and listen to this record and know that my stories have been told the way that I want them to be heard."

I gig with a Yamaha Clavinova P-200 piano. I couldn't imagine using anything else, unless it was a nice acoustic.
