I went outside on Route 303; the main street of Valley City, Ohio, and I found a wooden acoustic guitar in a 55 gallon trash can. It had 2 string on it and the wood on the back was missing in long 3 inch wide strips. I played this guitar for nearly a year. with 2 strings. I was playing songs like Peter Gunn and Walk Don't Run buy the Ventures. My oldest brother told my mother they should get me a guitar for Christmas. The new guitar had 6 strings, a $69 Sears Silvertone Electric, and I felt like i was sitting on top of the world. that was 45 years ago. here we are.


WHY MERLIN THE MYSTIC?

The name was given to me in 1972 in Orlando, Florida during a days work gardening / care taking for a wealthy couple... I was on my knees replacing grass sprigs, filling in the hollow spots in the lawn when I was caused to look up to my right side in the sky and I was made to stand on my feet. Immediately I saw the feet of Jesus Christ, The Son Of GOD, and the ONLY Begotten of The Father whom you call GOD. The bare feet of Jesus began about 5 1/2 feet in the air and upward from there I saw his pure white robe and a golden girdle wrapped about his waist. He extended down his left arm, opened his hand over my head and sprinkled me. Out of his hand came hundreds of drops of blood the size of silver dollar coins. I heard loud repeating THUDS all around me like a heavy rain sound. In the blood was salvation, healing, visions and cleansing; THE BEST SHOWER I EVER HAD. After that quick moment I saw visions for 3 days and nights about a great Rock & Roll show. The name Merlin the Mystic came in the blood with everything else. I have never been the same since. Thus, because of the sprinkling I received a word from the Holy scriptures telling me...

"This day, is this scripture fulfilled in your ears;"

"Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD. And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee [as] my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, [but] their heart goeth after their covetousness. And, lo, thou [art] unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them."

I think I spoke to the craziest man on Earth today. I just sold a man an ad in the magazine that reads:

Cleveland's Own Merlin the Mystic

This man, whom I spoke with for nearly a half hour, told me that 6 months ago he had a vision from God telling him to create a myspace and start a music career. This vision told him he would perform the largest concert ever, including three holograms costing 3/4 of a million dollars each and his myspace would get more activity than any other myspace come september.

I will admit I pondered for a moment over me making this post: what if me linking his myspace prompts people to check it out, and his actually DOES get more activity than any other? Fate? The Hand of God? Insanity at its best?

The most important musical influence affecting my life ; is definitely the Moody Blues; the worlds spiritual BIG BROTHERS. (musically speaking) Second would be Chet Atkins, who changed my direction in guitar playing after a friend phoned me in 1972, and said "turn on your television; there is a man playing guitar that you might like." That night; I threw away my flat guitar pick and replaced it with a THUMB PICK , then growing fingernails on my right hand , and six months later, in the spring, I went back on stage as a "one man band" for the next five years. A man named JULIAN BREAM, deceased, is -in my opinion, the finest classical guitar finger picking virtuoso who ever walked the earth. I have heard all the great guitarists of the past 350 years; and this is not up for debate or discussion; JULIAN BREAM IS TOPS. In todays world, there are many great talented guitar players out there, depending on your personal taste. To name a few; Steve Vai is at the top of the list; and will remain there .... forever. Also Larry Coryell, Earl Klug, Eddie Van Halen (totally original) now how often does THAT happen? Of course who doesn't like Pink Floyd for their deep meditative take you way out contribution. Too many to mention, I like good rock & roll and in music , I will stay FOREVER YOUNG.
