the carbon flaw

In 2003 I started writing demos for an album. I began work on one song, but I found I was no longer emotionally motivated to continue writing. Essentially, I was happier. The project remained important to me, however, and in 2005 I've resumed the album project for a 2006 release, Monarch.
I've always had something for music. Whether it was attaching rubber bands to shoeboxes for a makeshift guitar, or keyboard lessons at the age of 8... inspired to play and buy electric guitar in 1997 and having played for 8 years. Sparks of interest in starting a 3 or 4 piece hard rock band that never quite grew. A dream over a decade long of wanting to release an album... inspired to get back to the keyboard in late 2003, and start making that dream into a reality. And here I am, a one-man "band", the carbon flaw.

Why this name?
I wanted something meaningful because the music would be meaningful. I wasn't going to toss around cliched dance and techno music, but rather work with emotions and look inside myself and express that. I've always liked mysterious things that catch your attention and pull you in. You want to know more, and you can't stop pulling away layer upon layer to get to the core of what you're hoping to come across.
"the carbon flaw" is in a way, a theory, or at least sounds like one. Truth is, it is a universal truth. Every person in this world, be they man, woman, child, elder... no matter what race or religion or set of philosophies, no matter how many good deeds or secrets they hold - they have a flaw. We all do, you and I. Nobody is perfect. That person whom you trust most, can break down the wall that took years to build, in seconds. That person you thought "could never", has already, or will let you down, hurt you, disregard you, offend you, blame you, betray you. We all do these things, in some way, to some extent. Just as carbon exists in every living thing, so does this flaw exist in every one of us, and there will never be a cure - we must accept it.

Do you play live?
Right now I do not have any plans of playing live. It would be boring for the audience to see one guy behind a keyboard the entire time. Theoretically, this could work in a smaller setting - perhaps a cafe. Maybe some day I will find people to interpret my work as a true band, but right now I don't have any intentions.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
People with musical dreams or otherwise can now realise that getting signed to a label - be it indie or major, is not the only avenue. Get your music online, promote in the right places and you can find an audience. Hopefully more sincerity and caring about individuality will evolve throughout the industry because of this means of distribution.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If that major label gave me complete free reign over my music and such things as cover art, and I felt the people involved were sincere and not out for money, yes.
Band History:
Not much history, honestly. I started TCF sometime in the Fall of 2003.
Your influences?
Nine Inch Nails was the first band to really influence me to the point that I decided to purchase a keyboard, as that would be the mainstay of the music. Though going back several years, I have had many more influences, mostly derived from guitar oriented rock bands such as Alice In Chains, Type O Negative, Stone Temple Pilots (who inspired me to begin guitar), The Deadlights, The Cure. More recent, diverse influences would have to be Nostalgia (this great ambient music from Germany), Tori Amos, Tweaker/Chris Vrenna, Jesper Kyd, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, nearLY...
Favorite spot?
Anywhere but here, really. New Zealand would be a very nice place to live, however I've never been there. Any place with nice views, deep culture, lots to offer and no brutal winters or summers.
Equipment used:
- Keyboard: Roland Fantom-S workstation (primary sampling/editing)

Anything else...?
I hope people get something from my music, or being here is pointless.
