Rick and Goose Duo are two guys who play more than one Instrument(s) at a time, creating the sound of a Total band.
Rick Veneer Sings, plays Guitar and Harmonica, where myself, Lil Goose plays Double Bass , Bass Drum with my Right Foof and Hi-hat Cymbals with my left foot, (all at once of course). This gives a very unique overall sound with the feel sounding a lot freer without a constant "2" and "4" snare drum. It also leaves the music a lot lighter and looser., but man it is tight in reality. A great combination of personalities.
Why this name?
Rick is Rick, my nickname on the Australian Music scene since 1967 has been {lil goose). I played in a band that had 3 Barry's in it and it didn't work in communication. When CHAIN(OZ) started there were 2 Barry's left so I got lil goose as I was the shortest. the other goose, (big goose) being Barry Sullivan who passed away on 27th, October 2003. He was the best Electric Bass man to ever play in Australia.
Do you play live?
We play live as much as we can. Usually quiter gigs and Blues, Folk Festivals. Our 1st. CD "Valley of the Blues" has just been released by Big Rock Records, here in Australia in Sydney. Every moment of playing music the way you want to is special to me.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet is a great way of getting your music heard and your name out there. Once the Piracy Element is squashed, it will be great for all dedicated Artists. The mp3 itself is a genius invention. I think.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We have one with Big Rock, but I am a very ambitious person.
Band History:
Rick and the Goose eventuated through myself have a jam with Rick with my double bass and it sounded okay. We got some gigs and I missed the Hi-hat Foot Sound and {no reflection) on singers, but the Stomp Box is a joke compared to a real Bass Drum. So we added the other parts of the drum set set used by the feet and the result was magic. Our first Album was 3 years of very hard work, but the end result is worth it.
Your influences?
Jimi Hendrix, Howlin Wolf, Chain(oz)., The Rolling Stones. Muddy Waters, Duke Ellington, Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery,
Bob Dylan, The Band, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Paul Chambers, Jaco Pastorious, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and Otis Spann
Favorite spot?
BOSTON
Equipment used:
All acoustic apart from a microphone.
Anything else...?
This is the most unusual combination of 2 musicians that I have ever seen and 20 years ago I had no idea that I would be combining Doble Bass Lines with Bass drum patterns.
This duo is good.
