The Young Turks
NEWS   How to read our recording takes:

The number before the slash is the take

The number after the slash is the "effort"
(meaning, how many tries have been performed of this take up to this point)

We are pleased to announce that after a long and difficult search: We've hired an engineer/producer to work out details of the "Agent Orange" album. We thank the seven alternates (Kurtis, Michael, Moe, Ant, Gregory, Dave and Bryce) for their efforts, however, your services will not be needed and we wish nothing but the best for you all. Thanks
-The Young Turks

As for those not related: Thank you for putting up with the garbage that's been on this page. We begin recording TONIGHT (May 6th) after a few months of getting everything treated and catered to us and a two week set back. We're removing most of the "clearing" tracks and leaving up scratch tracks of "Agent Orange" material. Thanks for bearing with us and the good stuff is coming VERY soon.

The Young Turks are a Detroit based punk band founded by Chrystian Tracey of Southgate and Peter Smith of Dearborn in the latter part of two-thousand and one. Guitarist Branden Alveraz and Brandon Scott were added to the mix in 2002. After the band, Smith and Alveraz parted way, The group evolved into a trio with Tracey and Scott who added bassist Jeff Davis in May of 2005. The band has just finished up tape on their first LP and has released one time member Brandon Scott. He has been replaced by Richard Hanes of Melvindale, Michigan. Their current sound follows in the tradition of such other Detroit acts as MC5, The White Stripes, Iggy and the Stooges and SRC. In addition to local influences The Young Turks are also influenced by The Beatles, The Doors, The Who and The Rolling Stones.

Why this name?
Peter Smith, a former member of the band suggested the name while doing studies for his doctorate in history. After Smith left the line up, the name just stuck.
Do you play live?
Success and Goodbye!

After six months of extensive work the tracks for "Agent Orange" have been successfully completed and accepted. Final mixes are now being edited and completed in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

When in the band's possession: The finalized mixes will then be sent to Capitol Records, Suite one, in Hollywood, California where they will be mastered by Mr. Mark Chalecki.

Mr. Chalecki has worked with artists such as Ray Charles, Dave Davies of the Kinks, Less Than Jake, James Brown, Tupac, Sublime, Megadeth, Scott Weiland and June Carter Cash. In addition to his many mastering projects, he also worked with former Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick

The recording on the album "Agent Orange" began under the close eyes of our new sound engineer and producer,Seth on Friday, May 6, 2005 after numerous delays. The record wrapped on August 31st, 2005 after the final vocal tracks were put down on tape. Live shows have began and dates can be found on this site.

Also, we have replaced Brandon with a new and more professional drummer by the name of Richard Hanes. We are thrilled to add him to the mix and can't wait to record our newest songs with him.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We don't really think about that, but at times it's wonderful to communicate with bands we'd not know under different circumstances. It makes the music world a little smaller and lets us meet people who we can enjoy without having to hear from them through MTV or commercial radio.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
We're not interested in the commercial whoring of rock music and we don't see that in the cards for our songs. There is nothing worse than a group that sells out or who is a pure media creation and then tries too hard to prove to themselves that they're a serious band and consider themselves "musicians".

Most of the time in the commercial world: it's well known that those bands and the labels that carry them are the types who think having a particular look or style on each track is more important than having a message in their music and are the types who miss what it should really mean.

The commercial world has shown that time after time a band like Matchbox 20 is as famous for their drab sound as they are for their "look". It's nothing more than the modern twist on a hair band. It's sad to be honest. The same can hold true for a band like Maroon 5. All of those types are what most majors look for, more attractive versions of Dave Matthews, if you got it: You're in. Just like in the 80's--if you had tall hair: You were it. If that's the case: NO. On the other hand one must survive and if the right arrangements could be worked out and the integrity of the music not compromised it may not be all bad. The more commercial your label, the more people your message can reach...or so I hear.
