CC Stewart - "I have known since age 4 what wanted to be. I have struggled my whole life in being a musician, a singer, and a songwriter. On this site are songs that are of life experiences and are very personal to me. I am constantly writing more material and cutting new songs. In the meantime, I pray that you, the listener, might know somebody... who knows somebody...who knows somebody...that would believe in me enough to get me discovered or get me a break into this tough industry."

Why this name?
My firstname is actually Christopher. Christopher C. Stewart! Alot of people ask me why "CC"? The answer is: My Dad gave me the nickname for two different reasons...First, he used to call me his "Crispy Critter" as I was a little miracle baby. (My parents were told by 3 different doctors that they couldn't have children) The second reason why is because my father taught me my first song, "CC Ryder"! My parents were huge Elvis fans and Dad convinced one night to run into the living room, where Mom was sitting and watching the TV, and to do these Elvis moves and sing "CC Ryder". I was too nervous, scared what my Mother might think, but Dad got me up to do it and taught me the words for about 5 minutes or so and then I just ran in there and did it! My Mom beamed and I was hooked by the praise...lol. I was their "Crispy Critter", their "CC Ryder", and always Christopher, their first born. Everyone calls me "CC".
Do you play live?
I play live almost every chance I get. I've scraped up a poor living gigging since 1990 or so in the central Iowa area. Moved to Des Moines in 1993 and played in a house band at a local bar called "Toad Holler" I played a ton of gigs there and basically developed my stage persona doing 3-4 nights a week at the club and also opening up for any national recording artist Toad Holler brought in there. I have had alot of killer performances opening up for Stars. I always liked that pressure or thrill I guess. I love hi energy, in your face, kickin butt, slick and professional but also being yourself kind of sets. I'd even put the pressure on some of the newer artists just released - a few times I did anyway... I do my own version of Dobie Grey's "Drift Away". I bellar just so on it and take an extended guitar solo. It always seemed to bring the last of set to a high climax and even break the song down while the audience would be singing it back to the band. Awesome feeling. It's become one of my signatures and still today - the audiences have never gotten tired of it. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to sing it or have something else in mind - sure enough, someone will shout it out "Do Dobie Grey!" or "Drift Away! Do Drift away!" When they ask for it... I always perform it. Even my 3 years on the road, I got the same kind of response. - lol, yes...I love playing live! When I'm not - you might even find me on the internet trying to make new fans. It's addicting!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
In many ways, it's put the creativity back in the hands of the artist. We all have our opinions of what we think talent is. Sometimes, some of the best talents out there never even get discovered. I'm not saying I'm all that - but I have alot of faith in my abilities as an artist... a singer, songwriter, guitarist or pianist, even producer. I want to create and share it with the world. I worked with a world reknown guitarist, (buckybarrett.com), he produced 20 some songs on me in Nashville and walked me right into the labels. One time, I heard him say to a label exec that he'd put me up against anyone in the country... He believed in me and for 7 years 1993 - 2000. We shopped and many times came so close to closing a major ecord deal. It came down to money. I always thought talent would be enough. It's not always the case. Your a product and talent is only one small part of that whole. I'd give anything for a sponsor. I believe in what I do the way I do. Mp3's have allowed me to continue the dream by digitally producing my own creations - literally by myself, and kind of invent my own kind of thing on the internet with sites like "mysoundclick.com" Alot of people I'm sure have found their dream in mp3's or like me, taken new hope that maybe a sponsor or major deal is out there. By recognizing talent and or experience or both. Hopefully it can benefit both the independents and the majors. There sure is alot more stuff out there now because of mp3's and I think it does put more pressure on labels to not only up the standard, but to keep up with the marketing so as to not lose potential sales. (HEY! Labels!!! OVER HERE!!! Co-PUBLISHING with FULL MARKETING AND PROMOTION, LET's DO THIS THING!) lol... I keep praying and recording!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
(re-reads what I just wrote...) hmmmmmmmmmmmm. lol! Yes, but the label would have to be completely behind me. I'd work my butt off on tour and in the studio with the right deal.

Your influences?
I have so many influences. I think Steve Perry is killer. I like singers with power and control. I like Phil Vasser, Steve Wariner,Ronnie Milsap, Bryan White, Andy Griggs Restless Heart on the country side... In other things I love Delbert MClinton, Bonnie Raite, Eric Clapton, SRV, Bad Company, Mickey Thomas, Journey...I remember the 80's liking Whitesnake, Europe, to the contemporary sounds of Lionel Ritchie and Michael Bolton. Any group or artist with a killer vocalist - always catches my attention.

Guitarists? My mentor, Bucky Barrett of course. he's amazing. The dude's a genious... and is the most technical perfectionist I have ever met. going to Nashville I dug Merle's players to Brent Mason in the studio. Bucky opened my eyes up to guys like Larry Carlton and Dan Huff. Vince Gill, Steve wariner... theyre a given. lol
