Disciples of Sorrow was started early in 1998 by Vassago shal D'emone and Chrystovarr D'annan in an attempt to create a different sounding Gothic style of music. The two band members were introduced to each other by a mutual friend, and became the best of friends. Both shared a pure fascination for the darkness and are both devoted goths. The music of Disciples of Sorrow has a distinctively different sound to it, as it is a mixture of Goth, Industrial and New age music. The music of this band has also been played on a local campus radio station and at the local Goth club.
Why this name?
Disciples of Sorrow was a name my one friend and I thought of in 1993 to describe ourselves in a joking manner. When the band was created, we thought it a fitting name, and thus Disciples of Sorrow was born
Do you play live?
We have played several gigs at Zeplins in Pretoria and Tequila Sunrise Hatfield since 2000. We love performing, and also enjoy using stage performers in our shows.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think mp3 is a good thing. Where a lot of bands have struggled before with demos to try and get themselves heard locally, mp3 allows them to send their music worldwide for thousands to hear.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If it does happen, great! But I would prefer that the band has more say in how the music should sound than the producer.
Band History:
Get back to you on that...
Your influences?
Our music is a strange mix of heavy guitars, ethereal sound, electro and gothic content.
Diary of Dreams, Seraphim Shock, Aesma Daeva, l'Ame Immortelle, Diorama, Nightwish, Silex, Mr. Barleycorn, Clan of Xymox and Cruxshadows are just some of the bands we are influenced by
Favorite spot?
Definitely Pretoria. We love the people and the way the gothic culture has grown here...
Equipment used:
For the electro stuff we use Modplug Tracker, nothing more.
Anything else...?
Expect some band bios soon...
