*Pop music can be sweet and relaxed, without being saccharine and false. Carefree and genuine are what Cherry Cornflakes are all about. *Review, 2004 Press Magazine by Tony Maghirang
Cherry Cornflakes is an alternative band on a quest to share their love for music. They are currently signed under Galaxy Records Philippines
The name itself conjures images of the quintessential cereal commercial: a beautiful morning with the sun dancing on the kitchen countertop where a pitcher of milk and bowl sit beside a huge box of Cherry Cornflakes. Upon taking your first spoonful, you are jolted by the sweet burst of cherries and the crunch that those cornflakes pack. There's also an innocently naughty touch about the choice of fruit: a symbol for something bashful yet ripe for the picking.
The band is just that: a group of carefree young musicians that pack a punch when they play. Bassist Archie Simangan, guitarist Joey Flores and drummer Jed Dayrit make the powerful mix, while vocalist Cherry Simangan is, well, the sweet cherry that sits among these cornflakes.
Cherry Cornflakes is best known for its remake of Three O'clock's On Paper from Galaxy Records and Jam 88.3's acoustic compilation Jam and Jive. They came out with their first album, "Calorie Free" last August 2005. Most of these reflect a certain lightheartedness despite the range of mood, from the brooding Butterfly to the rebellious Margarita. Songs like Wordplay, I Crush U and Time Is Up show that though cherries are sweet, this one's a tough cookie (or cornflake).
They are comming out with their second album which they described as their "rebirth". Cherry Cornflakes have certainly come a long way. After the change in band members, they have grown more powerful, More intense, More mature, More Soulful and yes, very effective. Their new songs are based on personal experiences which anybody can easily relate to.
From their first chart topper singles- Paraiso, which was a nostalgic trip back to childhood, It's over, a very simple yet catchy reggae song. Season's Change, Over you, You're not mine, Boogieman, are just some new songs you have to look forward to. Cherry Cornflakes is definitely one band that will give you goosebumps.
This is proof that a dose of Cherry Cornflakes provides infectious energy in the morning, and at night, can send you to dreamland with visions of sugarplums dancing in your head.

Why this name?
It started when our bassist, Archie, made a joke about calling the band "gumamela cornflakes" which then lead to a debate that local bands in the philippines are inspired by food names. Since Cherry was on lead vocals and most local bands were named after breakfast foods... so thus... the band "Cherry Cornflakes" was born.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It changed the music industry a whole lot because instead of buying cd's... the people can download songs of their favorite artists from the internet... it became more convenient for the people to gain access to a specific song they wanted... The bands are more commercialized... but sadly, record producers earn less.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
YES! As a matter of fact, we are already signed :)
Band History:
Formerly it was just an acoustic pair with Archie on guitar and Cherry on vocals. Mike Bewer, a very close friend and fellow musician, introduced the two to Leo Mayormita & Mike Monsod producers from Galaxy, and they ended up with a record deal with Galaxy Records a subsidiary of Universal Records. After recording 2 songs for the CD Compilation "Jam & Jive" (in cooperation with Jam 88.3 and Galaxy Records) they decided that it was best to have a full band for their live performances. They met with Marco(guitars)and Paolo(drums) to collaborate on other songs archie and cherry wrote for their self titled full-length album which is now available at all record stores nationwide!
Your influences?
Although the band members have different personal musical influences, their sound is unique. Major influences include Cynthia Alexander, The breeders, Weezer, Lisa Loeb, Madonna, Moonpools & the caterpillars, No Doubt and ofcourse their own spunk.
