Group Therapy is a Japanese Jazz-Rock band with their own unique style.
Band/artist history
Founded in 1989 in Osaka, Japan, the band started playing unique compositions and gave several gigs in Kansai area. The name GROUP THERAPY is very ironical. The band usually played their own strange instrumental music which was not beautifully arranged meditative music but based on free improvised jazz, and most audience were disgusted or got tired and fell into sleep when listening to the music. But the players believed that they could cure the sick mind of the audience through their uncommon music. That was the way of their THERAPY. In 1992 they disbanded because the bass player moved to Tokyo, but in 1995, an original member, Hiroyuki Kitada, decided to gather his new and old friends, who are very talented musicians, to reunite this unique band after the long silence. The group leader Hiroyuki Kitada is not only a guitarist but also a composer. His compositions are full of originality and imagination having impressive and familiar melodies, which lead the listeners to his own mystical world. The band consists of two guitars including guitar synthesizer, soprano sax, trombone, bass and drums. The music played by these six musicians features dozens of improvisation and is sure to reach the deep inside of the listeners. The way of their THERAPY has been dramatically changed.
