Welcome to the 8th Gate. We are a hip hop group based out of Columbia, South Carolina. The group consists of Vocab, WrongfulDef, Live Disciple, King Crysus, and Savage. We are very versatile and cannot be clasified as one genre of hip hop. This is not your average group from the South. We all have different styles and influences but we come together to make great music. Our beats are original, created by group member, Vocab. Just listen.

Why this name?

The 8 in 8th Gate represents the ongoing cypha. Think of the 8 like the symbol for infinity. The Gate represents the gate to our minds. You have to enter the gate in order to get on our level and understand what we are trying do.

Do you play live?

We have done very successful shows at various clubs in our local area. We love performing live and will be available for any events. Our most recent performance was opening for Missy Elliott's Album Release Party. Contact us for more info.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

It changes it in many ways, some negative, some positive. The positive thing about it is the exposure. Where else can you reach such a broad audience for such a small price? On the flip side its difficult to get people to support your music by purchasing it after previewing it from the net.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

Yes, if the deal is right. The record industry can be shady nowadays, we have to be very careful.

Your influences?

Our musical influences are too many to name. We have learned from just about everyone in the music industry. Our favorite is the Wu Tang Clan.

We use a Motif ES 6 and a Yamaha AW16G workstation for composing and recording our music.
