Three Years in Tibet is a gothic float band 80's style, dark and moody, floating grooves, intricate wordscapes woven throughout.
Why this name?
mark's brother bill gets credit for the name. we originally called the band 'Fact or Fear', but as our music changed, we felt the need for a name change also. Bill was a college student at the time, and an avid reader, so he gave us a list of old book titles he liked , to be used as possible names. the title "three years in tibet " seemed to focus on the feeling of our music style, so we chose it. i always thought that we had misread bill's handwriting, and that it was "seven years in tibet", but i recently found info on the book "three years in tibet" by ekai kawaguchi, written in 1909, covering his travels through tibet.
Band History:
it began in 1984 in Melbourne, Florida, with the name 'Fact or Fear', i began writing and recording songs with mark amis on a weekly basis, which eventually became over 50 compositions from 1984-1986. in july 1985 we released the vinyl album 'Brittle Branches', from which the single 'beyond tibet' received college airplay in Florida, and british radio airplay. Mark and i experimented alot with non instruments used in percussion , and multitudes of fx, and my personal favorite; a six foot lenght of corrugated vacuum tubing from a computer printer, which Mark sang many of our songs through, we even took it into the studio for the lp cuts! it gave him a 'disembodied' sound. well as we come to the present, i am remastering all the recordings, and releasing them on our original label Pterodactyle Records, as digital audio, and mp3 discs.
