Spootiskerry is Kate on flute, fiddle, pennywhistle and mandolin, Mary on fiddle, John on fiddle, Speedoo on guitar and fiddle, and Joe on button accordian and bodhran. We play traditional Irish and Scottish reels, jigs, hornpipes, strathspeys, polkas, waltzes, airs and songs, with a few drinking songs thrown it just to break things up a bit. We're based in Baltimore MD and York PA in the USA.
Why this name?
Spootiskerry is also the name of our favorite Scottish reel, which we generally play in a set with another Scottish reel called Willafjord.
Do you play live?
We've been blessed to perform several times at the annual Fairie Festival at Spoutwood Farm in Glen Rock PA. We also play the occasional winery or pub.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
By making the music available to everyone.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Actually, we already have a deal with Columbia Records. You see, we got 12 CD's for free, then we just have to buy 4 more at regular price in the next 2 years...

Favorite spot?
So far, Asheville NC. But I haven't been to Ireland yet!
Equipment used:
Various fiddles of unknown origin (including a Knilling and a diPaola), a Casey Burns folk flute in D, a copper pennywhistle with maple fipple, a Taylor 914CE LEII acoustic guitar, a button accordian, a bodhran, and a Kentucky mandolin.
