ApoplexY is a death metal band from Strasbourg (France). We're producing a good old school technical death metal.
Why this name?
It's a medical term that means a sudden loss of consciousness resulting when the rupture or occlusion of a blood vessel leads to oxygen lack in the brain. Sounds violent and explicit enough for a death metal band...
Do you play live?
We play live in very different places from little club to big festival scenes. Our live performance are allways well appreciated because, like most metal bands we're no studio musician.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Internet gives us the opportunity to re-arrange how things are made in music industry. That's why the Majors will do everything to make it work only their way.
For us, being independent, we can distribute, promote and sell our music without any other intermediate. Directly from the musician to the listener.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not, but of course it depend on the nature of the contract. Making music is a job that we know. Producing music is a job that we know. Distributing, promoting music is another job that we don't know, and we don't care much about it.
Band History:
Band started in 1991 and was named Cannibal Warriors (crappy as it sounds). After some changes in the line up, it become ApoplexY in 1993 and take its current music style.
First demo "bloody worship" in 1995.
First album "infection" in 1997
Second album "Life, thoughts & destiny" in 2000.
Third album is in pre-prod.
Your influences?
Most of ou influences come from "Cannibal Corpse", "Death", "Morbid Angel", "Napalm death". But we also integrate other influences in our music and we're allways searching for melodic patterns.
Favorite spot?
For me (Joanny), that would probably be Boston, I've worked there some time ago. Lots of musicians there, bands playing everywhere.
Equipment used:
We're not techno or electronica band but we're playing on Ibanez, Hammer and Peavey guitars. On Boss and Rocktron pre-amp, on Mesa and peavey power-amp and Marshall cabinets. Tama drums and hartke bass amp.
