Band History:
Emcee, poet, visionary, music lover, fashionist, street celebrity, fine artist, and graphic designer…these are all hats worn by up and coming artist, Buddy Leroy. Born to a military family in Ft Benning, GA (raised in Fayetteville, NC and beyond) on December 31st, 1979, Buddy was predestined to be someone of great significance to the world of music and art. Buddy’s passion for animation and music would lead him to the Hip-hop “ocean” numerous times during his youth. In the summer of ’93, he would make his first dive into those waters, and begin honing his rhyme craft. Two years later, he would become fully immersed in the culture along with best friend/fellow artist DCENT one as cipher ready/battle emcees and graf writers. During that time he would mingle with such Fayetteville artists such as Unsigned Hype alumni, Characta Assasinz, Open Eyes, Grey Matter, I.V. League, and Master Mind Controller.

High School graduation would send Buddy on his way to Atlanta, GA for college (DCENT one would move back to TX). From then, until Dec. 2000 he would participate in a multitude of Atlanta’s hip-hop and poetry events. Through this circuit he would meet the members of his clique, Broady Champs, which includes Marq Spekt, NYCE, PG, and Golden Scholar. They would go on to dominate the scene through radio bombardment, guerilla marketing of self-released product, and massacring of stages with such artists as KRSONE, Swollen Members, Stronghold, Scienz of Life, Big Jus, Micranots, and many others. The year 2003 would be a break from performing for the indestructible juggernauts. This hiatus would allow them to do some soul searching, recording, and getting focused on the business side of things. During that period, Buddy Leroy would release his first full-length solo project, “The Misadventures of…”.Contributors included DJ’s Bretteclectic and Cozy Shawn (MJQ), Sabertooth (Liuns Den), Copatone (misfilter/Doppler Studios), DJ Mafioso (Binkis) as well as others. Though it did not gain him critical fame, it did give him the experience of releasing a solo effort, as well as the “Lyricist of the Year” Award (2003) from scene zine, ATL Magazine.

2004 finds the young globetrotter reunited with DCENT one in Austin TX. Fresh to the scene, Buddy Leroy has already found himself in the same circles as mixtape kings/remixers Tuner Control (DJ’s Beneb and Net Wt), turntablist crew Parikatachi, party-rocker DJ Manny, young house legend DJ Spettro , DJ Jester the Filipino Fist, and many others. Upcoming projects including “Budzilla vs The Incredible Illa” w /uber-producer Illa, “Fashion Rap Vol. 1…”, and the “Hope EP”, “Dirty Needlz mixtape” w/ Broady Champs,& an untitled album, as well as guest appearances and collabos should keep him busy this year. The saga continues, where do you join in???
