D'Andre's DREAM introduces De'Blak, a creative mixture of hip hop and spirituality rested in the coolness of the ancestors shadows! To risky for christian rap and to politcal for mainstream, this independant samurai fights lyrically for his cause. One listen will never be enough...
Why this name?
De'Blak stems from an old college name (Black) prescribed as an ode to my dark skin. Also is attributed to my willingness to struggle for my people and my cause.
Do you play live?
My last performance was at Alabama State University. I did a spoken word piece and loved every minute of it. It's always special when a crowd asks for more!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet and mp3 opens the doors for independant artists and businesses. It takes a lot of the power from major entertainment entities that don't responsibly share their profits. I think it's the best thing since belt loops on pants!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I wouldn't sign a record contract unless I had a specific amount of ownership and creative freedom. I am more apt to signing a distribution deal.
Band History:

Your influences?
My music is influenced by people and culture, from blacks to whites and asians to latinos. My upbringing has been my greatest influence. Watching how people react to their relationship with good and bad. I write about internal struggles with self. The natural and the supernatural. Anything that has a rythm inspires me to produce, write and perform my music. And any creative person knows that every single thing has a rythm. All music inspires me. All genres have the listening ear of De'Blak!
Favorite spot?
I've found no greater joy than to be a citizen of Georgia. I proudly put Atlanta up as my favorite spot to date. AT the end of every travel I smile when the sign reads " Atlanta 60 miles"
Equipment used:
I use all digital equipment. Cakewalk Pro Audio, Sonar, Soundforge, Fruity Loops, Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic, combined with a little outboard gear and a strong keyboard (oh and don't forget a trusty condenser or tube mic) and I am good to go.
