(the) fundamentalists-a gay oriented electro, dancerock group from Detroit, Michigan. The sound is an amalgamation of electo, high energy dance and heavy rock.
Why this name?
We like the idea of taking a bit of the piss out of the whole narrow-minded concept of fundamentalism-the word actually means a "strict adherance or rigorus belief in something" well, we have a "strict adherance and rigorus belief" in the concept that being who/what you are is FUNDAMENTAL to basic human freedoms/sanity. But mainly, we just like the name.
Do you play live?
Yes-mainly pride festivals (so far) in both Michigan and Canada. Extremes-playing Detroit's Metro pride (crowd of 2000+ & sharing a stage with Pansy Division!!) also Ann Arbor pride-total audience of 3 and the sound woman (!)-still had a great time!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I believe that it gives (as many others here have said) unsigned/unknown artists a forum for their views and music. Whether it will ultimately impact the music industry monolith in any appreciable way remains to be seen...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably NOT-have heard WAY too many horror stories about the "bank" attitude of the majors-would much rather go the Ani Difranco route DIY and keep our integrity and any income...
Band History:
From the ashes of the two famously unknown GLBT oriented groups (the) Crucible and Outland, (the) fundamentalists were formed by Chris Taylor in late 2003. The band has extensive experience in live performance igniting audience enthusiasm wherever they've performed.
