OK first things first. I'm an Australian student, who spends so much time studying that he has very little time left for hobbies. One of the things I do however make time for is writing lyrics. I love to sit down and try to write something involving a great metaphore, and then look back at it all when I'm done. The feeling of accomplishment is something I couldn't live without. At the moment, I'm only starting to listen to rap music from my own country, so apologies if all my music sounds a little too 'American'. I only just started to rap with an Aussie accent as well, so my style is a little twisted for the moment. Only one song up at the moment, it's the beat to a song I'll be recording in the future.
Why this name?
Well, long story, but basically, the 'Tunl' part came from the fact my initials are T.L. and I don't have a middle name... T un(titled) l. Like that, then I just threw 'Vision' on the end so it was an actual thing. You would most likely know that 'Tunnel Vision' is a degenerative disease in the eye, and you may or may not be pleased to know that I don't actually have it.
Do you play live?
I don't MC live, but I do however play live in my band, in which I play bass guitar. We are called 'Unbridled Restraint' and we play rock/ska/funk/everything. We play around our local area a fair bit, and once our album is released, I will still working seriously on my own solo album, with production mostly by Daniel Ebbels, the guitarist of Unbridled Restraint.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet: An independent artist's dream, and a professional artists nightmare. It allows for both unsigned artists to distribute their art freely without needing help from any professionals, and aids pirates in stealing from ligitimate artists who don't want their work distributed freely. As an independent artist, it goes without saying that I love the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, as long as it gave me a certain amount of creative control.
Band History:
1999: Heard 'My Name Is', got into rap.
2002: After hearing many great rap artists, I decided that my vocabulary was large enough to do it myself, and so, I started MCing.
2003: Started to share little battle raps I wrote with friends, and got some good feedback, even though the stuff was far from Shakespeare. Also decided to write an album.
2004: Became confident enough to start writing songs and wanting to record them. First song to be recorded for the album.
Your influences?
Aesop Rock.
Ugly Duckling.
Everyone out there who can stay serious, without taking themselves too seriously, and those who aren't afraid to stray off the path a little.
Favorite spot?
My town, Frankston, Australia.
Equipment used:
God, I have no idea, since I don't own it, and I just use it.
Anything else...?
Anything else? Let's see, I think I've said enough already... Well, I'll put more here when I think of it.
