New Drummer announcement
Joel Pirard has been playing, writing, and recording original rock music for years, as a guitarist, bassist and keyboardist. Don Pitz is JDA's primary lead vocalist. He also plays keyboards, guitar, bass, and percussion. Arno Tietje is the primary lead guitarist in The JDA Project. Arno also sings, plays bass, percussion, lap steel guitar, and harmonica. The JDA Project has released 5 CDs, A Fine TIme, Through A Moving Window, Syzygy, Dropstones and the live For the Sake of the Song. The current lineup also includes these excellent players. Bassist: Frank Coda SR joined the band in 2020, Born and raised in The Bronx. Frank started playing guitar around age 10 switching to bass a few years later and began playing area high school dances with local cover bands. In his mid to late teens he played high school & college dances , Tri-state clubs and weddings playing covers with the Tin Lizzy and City Addition. In the mid 70s he played exclusively with Tin Lizzy doing covers and original music around the tri - state area until the late 70s when the group changed direction doing all original music as Fagan and later changing the group name to the Buddy Traina Band playing the NYC circuit and producing 1 single. After disbanding in the early 90s Frank stepped away from band life to focus on family and other interests like gardening and cooking. Now as an empty-nester the time came to find a group to go out and play again with THE JDA PROJECT. NEW DRUMMER JAMES TAYLOR "I was born in the Motor City to a family with with 8 siblings, music was a daily part of life. Motown was pumped through a portable AM radio and held to my ears constantly. It was the BEAT that I was driven too and that convinced me that I was born to play the drums. "During Covid I built a 10x10 sound-proof studio, bought a Tama set and got back into full daily practices with the drums. I joined The Smokin’ Aces band in 2022 we played a few gigs doing typical rock covers, but the lead singer quit the band and with that, the band broke up - or should I say, faded away.I’ve been practicing daily and searching for another band since then. ...until Craigslist connected me with JDA."
Band/artist history
Joel knew Don, and Joel knew Arno. They recorded separately and together for years, worked in bands together, Joel And Don in Anthem and Alaska; Joel and Arno in The Alienz. When the three got together , something magical happened. The band started as a fun recording project, doing about 20 Beatles songs, which prompted us write together., eventually creating A FINE TIME. D: I spent a lot of time playing in rock clubs in the area, especially New Jersey, which is how I met these guys. J: I played with Don in two other bands, Alaska and Anthem, in 1981 and 1983 respectively, and occasionally recorded with him for fun. I met Arno in 1985, when I joined The Aliens, an avante-guard, Talking Heads-Squeeze type of original band. When The Aliens folded in 1987, Arno and I kept in touch. We recorded with Don around this time for the first time. Two of those songs will appear in brand new arrangements on "Through A Moving Window " These early sessions planted the seeds, although it was years before we came together as The JDA Project. I guess I'm sort of the 'pivot' man. A: We all respected each other's musical talents in and out of bands and got along so well that an association at some point seemed logical. There are many tracks that Joel and I recorded together that may someday get reworked in The JDA Project manner. "Carry It Through" was one recorded for the first time right after The Aliens broke up. With Erwin Brea on bass, and Chris Scott on drums and vocals, the band made their live debut at the famous venue KENNY'S CASTAWAYS in NYC in 2005 and a return engagement soon followed. However, Erwin left the band to pursue other things. Larry Lipshutz joined up on bass shortly afterward, has left the band as of 2019. Ron Cook took over the drumming in THE JDA PROJECT in 2007 when Chris left due to illness, and remained with the band until Chris's return. Robbie Offerman came into the fold after Chris left in 2013 and has since left the band. The JDA Project has released 6 CDs, A Fine TIme, Through A Moving Window, Syzygy, Dropstones and the live For the Sake of the Song, and JDA LIVE AT KENNY'S 10/15/2005 Bassist: Frank Coda SR joined the band in 2020, Don Hughes joined in 2020, but sadly passed away in 2023. And now James Taylor has joined as drummer as of November 2023!
