Molten Blue has a crafted pop-rock sound that's earned comparisons to both the Cowboy Junkies and Crowded House. With fluid melodies, a rock back-drop, and compelling lyrics, Molten Blue has attracted an audience from from a wide range of musical tastes.

Molten Blue's relaxed, confident control of dynamic level can send listeners into a brief dream, or rivit them to their seat with a wall of sound.

"The writing is exceptional, there's real artistic maturity" Ruth Scheffler, author

"a blend of intriguing melodies" The Dundas Star

"a fine collection of folk-rock with plenty of hooks...worth investigating for any fan of The Byrds or Buffalo Springfield" Jason Schneider, The Record, Kitchener, Ontario

Why this name?
Molten Blue is a term from an Emily Dickenson poem called "I taste a Liquor never Brewed"
This poem has a rhythmic motion that has inspired me for a long time.
Do you play live?
Yes..people can catch a Molten Blue show in the Southern Ontario area about once or twice a month. We'd like to keep playing for a long long time. It's always worthwhile, in a variety of venues. For example, tonight I played a solo show at a small cafe. Next week we're playing a large club. Whatever. It's all good.
If you make it big..?
I'd drive to Philedephia, run up the steps of city hall, and jump around in a grey track suit.
Band History:
I'm writing a song right now about my experience tree planting
in BC. My friends and I would work like crazy during the day and then eat
and play music in the camp at night. Our crew was called "Elvis" and we
used to kick back and say "Soul...if I had to explain it, you wouldn't
understand." Well after planting thousands of baby trees, I came home with
a new clarity for song writing.

Of course I ran into those who thought it was 'nice' that
I had a hobby but I felt differently about it. By 1997 I had taken guitar
lessons, and a recording production course and had played in a few bands.
I then took the plunge into a recording project and throughout the summer
of 1998, you could find me in the studio, headphones on playing away, and
having a great time.

It was then that I met multi instrumentalist, Chris Lobsinger.
He was playing jazz songs on a ukulele and we became friends. He was curious
about my songs and played on a couple of the tracks for the CD. Our first
show together (as the Chris & Fred Band) was for a grade 8 class trip
at a nearby conservation area. We played some songs on acoustic guitars
and then really jammed out a Spice Girls tune. Needless to say, the kids
were a riot and Chris was more interested in joining me full time!

The CD, "Telling Time" was released in November 1998 and we
started playing live shows as Molten Blue soon after. We were thrilled by the reception
of the CD in Hamilton and across Ontario. College radio has been kind to
us as the CD spent some time on the charts.
