This is my page for my original work. It will contain self-produced (i.e. 4-track type) demos and later full band recordings of the songs.
Why this name?
My mother in law bought me a ring in India called a Navaratna (nine stone ring) in which the nine gemstones each have a particular energy and the result is improved fortune for the wearer. Interestingly, some of the "authorities" I've seen proclaim that the nine stones in the ring are too small and inadequate to actually "do" anything and the proper usage is actually beaded necklaces with the nine-stone pattern.
Do you play live?
I play live with the Gorilla Dance Band based out of the Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church in the Woodlands, TX. We play one service a month (usually classic rock songs with appropriate themes) as well as external fund raising events and other things (weddings, festivals, etc.) and are working towards paying gigs.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has really impacted the current paradigm for distribution of music and the major labels seem unable to grasp how to use it positively (DRM only punishes honest users and more than 99 cents a track is bordering on obscene when there is no physical media or distribution network needed for it). Emusic.com had a good model for a while but lost it when they limited the amount of downloads too severely.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, not that my music (or image) would ever be commercial enough to merit one.
