Well in a way Noise Reductions was my first musical output, back in 1996. Though that wasnt what i was calling myself. I didnt have a 4-track or anything, so using a boombox i just did the old "bounce" back and forth technique to overdub stuff. However, it wasnt really until 2001 that i started to think of making "electronic" music seriously.
Why this name?
Actually it was more of a joke originally...one of the first project i started working on was completely just white noise experiments, so the "reductions" part was more of a joke. it just stuck in the long run. i didnt want to be like..."dj so and so", cos i'm not a dj, and it seemed a bit boring to just use my name. later i thought Bradical would be a funny name, but it was too late for that.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Sure, but it would depend which one. some are a little more...they give you more freedom as an artist that others. ideally, i'd like to make music that i enjoy making, and that keeps me excited and interested in making music, and i dont want to have to license an album for commercial use just to do that. sonic youth once said, "a major label is great, as long as you're just using it as your accountant".
Band History:
Well when i was younger, DJ Shadow dropped "Endtroducing" which i heard on wsmu, and immediately fell in love with. using whatever keyboards and drum machines, etc i could find i began trying to make such music. Over the years i would dabble with recording such experiments, but just as a hobby. Years later i then started experimenting with ambient and white noise, as well as noise collages involving media clips. Then about a year later, i returned to a more keyboard-based approach and started getting more serious about it all. I started searching for used gear, and circuit bending my own instruments and toys, and here we are.
Your influences?
Hmm, i like what Cex is doing a lot. a lot of that tigerbeat6 stuff...But it doesnt just end there, i own over 2500 cd's and in some way or another, they each have influenced me at least a bit over the years.
Favorite spot?
Probably providence, RI. it's close, but not too close, and there's some cool record stores there.
Equipment used:
As of lately...laptop, oxygen 8, Korg poly-8000, Roland mc-303 groovebox, and a bunch of circuit bent keyboards/toys, etc.
Anything else...?
I think it's okay that Dr. Dooom killed Dr. Octagon. in all fairness, he had it coming, and "No Chorus" is fricking awesome.
