Gretchen Langheld plays alto and soprano saxes as well as clarinet and is a dynamic composer who led her own band, House Afire, for many years. She often performs with three drummer/percussionists and three horn players making her music a unique mix of driving rhythms and soaring saxes. Over the years she has performed in New York City at Town Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kitchen, P.S. 1, the JVC Jazz Festival and the Knitting Factory. Gretchen toured Japan with her band House Afire upon the release of her CD Calling You.
Gretchen Langheld recently composed the sound track for the documentary film Spirit Animals. Previously she composed two full-length dance scores for Neo Labos, -Notes to Good Girls and Psyche and Eros - both produced at the Ohio Theatre in New York City. She has two songs, "Desire Brings You Back" and "Songs of Love", on the new Blondie CD, Curse of Blondie.
