And so, on with the blurb...

Raised in the musical school of hard knocks that is the Newcastle upon Tyne “gig scene”, Columbus Dixon’s characteristic driving guitar sound works around an intricate, yet massive-sounding rhythm section.

Musically, edgy and powerful, the songs are based on a strong, melodic approach. Lyrically insightful, fiercely independant, Columbus Dixon are an alternative to the current British fixation with mindless, shrink-wrapped, pre-packed, McPop cover merchants and whiney Nu-Angst pretenders.

Live, Columbus Dixon are an intriguing and captivating experience, who pull no punches with a potent yet amiable presence.

We don’t claim to be the saviours of the universe – but we could save you from the Top 40. We make the music we like, and we do it well. We are a bunch of nice blokes, but we are good, though. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we are good. Is it sinking in? Good blokes, good music.
Why this name?
It was taken from a (now defunct) industrial chemical company.
Do you play live?
We try to play live as often as possible, mainly in the Northeast of England, though we are about to head out to other venues around the UK.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Suddenly, it is so much easier to promote and distribute your own music. The possibilities are endless.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course. We'd sell our own grandparents to get one. Except Guy.
Band History:
The band was formed in 1997. Gav (drums) met Moss (vox) when asked to record him for a CD of local acoustic artists. Moss was a new-comer to the Newcastle acoustic scene and was taking part in gigs arranged by Guy (lead guitar). Guy started on bass, but eventually took on lead duties when Tom Trent joined on bass. Tom then left to join the Navy, but not before suggesting that his best mate, Rich, take on bass duties in the current line up.
Your influences?
The Who, Led Zep, Fugazi, Stone Roses, Black Sabbath, Chili Peppers, The Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, QOTSA, Iron Maiden (Rich), Motorhead (Rich), AC/DC (Rich)
Favorite spot?
Pub.
