I grew up in the Bronx,NY. I went to Cardinal Spellman High school. After graduation I went down to Virginia for a year. Now I'm over here in Chicago. The hip-hop scene is a little different over here. There are a lot of people you can really talk to about hip hop but for the most part a lot of people are into whatever new garbage is at the top of the billboards whether they deserve to be there or not. There is some good independent (underground) hip hop around chicago. But it's not the same. There isn't the depth that you can feel in the hip hop culture in ny. I also think chicago hip hop artists have a chip on their shoulder because hip hop migrated here and didnt originate here. You always hear "i'm real proud of -whoever-, they're putting chicago hip hop on the map." On that note, I am feeling Common and have been feeling common since i was in ny. I also liked da Brat back in the day and I like Kanye now (if you didnt know, he moved to ny a while ago). I also like Juice too. It seems he's been underground forever and is probably gonna stay there.
Why this name?
I'm mellow. My name is Dimitri. Duh. I thought MixMasterD was too much. and it reminds me of Funkmaster Flex.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's easier to get your music distributed. A lot of people label their music as something else so that people download it, but there are people who have built up a loyal following honestly over the internet. It also makes it a little harder to stand out b/c "nowadays, you know rap pays. you got a million rappers and a thousand dj's"
