SoundClick has ranked Paper Rock Scissors among its top ten unsigned bands. They have had number one songs on the Acoustic, Classical, Country, Pop, Rock and World charts as well as top ten songs in genres ranging from Beach to Bluegrass.

Why this name?
We are a trio of unique individuals who work together as a team. Just like in the children's game, there is a balance between elements, with no one force that is truly dominant.
Do you play live?
Paper Rock Scissors appears at coffee houses and folk festivals in the Southern Ontario region of Canada. The best thing about playing live is the people who come up after the show and tell you how your songs have touched them in some way. That's what music is all about.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet provides exciting new ways to get our songs heard. It opens up channels of distribution and promotion that never existed before. Some of our listeners still enjoy the look and feel of a tangible product. Others are fascinated by the technology of downloading songs in cyberspace. The internet lets us cater to all our listeners.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Our main goal is to get our songs heard. The industry is in a real state of flux right now. The major labels have told us that they are having a lot of financial problems. They don't seem to be looking for new artists these days--at least not in alternative musical genres. The major labels tell us that they lose money on nine out of ten of their releases. It's hard to say if that is the kind of partner we are looking for.

If we did sign it would have to be on our terms. We're having too much fun as independents and that's a big priority with us.
Band History:
The band consists of Gord Easton, Stephen Marsh and David Rintoul. They met at a college radio station and have been making music together ever since. Their latest album is called Places. Places is filled with songs about the group's travels around the world.
Your influences?
Our music is a blending of influences, from traditional folk and roots music, to the great singer songwriters from the seventies, to blues, punk and progressive rock influences. You'll hear an eclectic mix of material on our latest album, because it's also influenced by local music we've been overhearing in our travels.
