DREAD EVENT is a rap act from Brooklyn and New Jersey [or Haiti and Guadeloupe respectively].
Why this name?
From the Koran, the judgement day. The event will
be dreadful for the non-righteous people.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Not yet, as Universal Records seems to block an agreement for a worldwide P2P network where everyone is paid his/her share/split.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe.
Band History:
Carlos Clesca hails from Brooklyn, New York and is based in Switzerland since 1996. He started writing and producing in 1987. Of his many talents he counts acting, dancing, rapping and writing music the as dominating ones. In his youthful days he won a role in ABC TV network’s series 'City Kids' being on every Saturday morning. Carlos was a dancer for MTV’s famous show ‚The Grind‘. After that he started working with the 'CELLA DWELLAS' and also the 'BUSHWACKAS'. From 1996 on, there where several gigs with his crew during that time: 'IN NEW VIBES'. This crew was opening for GURU, THE ROOTS, COOLIO, THE FUGEES, and others during the years that followed in addition to them headlining their own gigs. In 1998, Carlos got together with Lyonel Brokey. Together until now they form DREAD EVENT. Also in 1998, IN NEW VIBES landed a record deal with ZYX records and as a consequence, the single 'Life isn’t simple' was released. That track made it on the 'Paarungszeit' soundtrack. Other singles for IN NEW VIBES were 'Children of Sanchez' and 'Shadow Walkers'. 'Shadow Walkers' was featured on the 'Desired Effects' soundtrack. IN NEW VIBES appeared live on VIVA TV in Germany. Following in 2000 was a MTV promotion for a film entitled ‚Save the last dance‘. At the same time Carlos won a role in a film called 'Hundredth Central Street'. After that was a promotion for a Beatles documentation with Kevin Spacey. Carlos Clesca then established an independent record firm called Chill-Citi with Bert Ross in 1999. Chill-Citi specialized in promotion and management of artists. Chill-Citi offers artists with high potential assistance with developing their self in a positive way. During the last 13 years, Carlos and Bert accumulated some music business know-how. Bert, from Long Island, New York, worked as a host for Radio WHQT 97.1 (better known as Hot 97). Bert and Carlos were also the opening 'Hooliganz' for folks like MASTER ACE, K-SWIFT, and LORDZ OF THE UNDERGROUND on Hot 97. In 2001, A.M.A.D. - while actually on holiday - did some well visited shows in Cuba, leaving people to cry when he left. They simply loved his style so much. During all these years, Carlos has learned about the ups and downs for an artist in 'the biz', as well as the superficiality often involved. That's where the name A.M.A.D comes from: A.M.A.D. = A Man Attacking Daemons. A.M.A.D has matured through his experiences into a serious MC.
