play lo-fi play hi-fi  Regret
One of the pioneering bands of Neo New Wave in the San Francisco bay area.
Why this name?
From the George Orwell novel, 1984.
Do you play live?
All over California..... We played a benefit show for a local Boys and Girls club. The kids were so into the show that we asked them to jump and...remember 'Jump Around' by House of Pain? Well that's what the place looked like after that.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a great way for unsigned artists to get their stuff out there.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes.
Band History:
In November of 1996 the band 101 was formed. They named the project 101 because of the significance in this digital age. The group played their fist show at the Chronicle Pavilion (Concord, CA) that April. Their first EP entitled "Flood" was released in August of 1997. A tour of the Bay Area followed, ending on the following April again at the Chronicle Pavilion.

The “Sleepless” EP was released in 1999, and will be followed by their latest album, which will be released later this year.

Club Cocodre, The Maritime Hall (San Francisco,), U.C. Berkeley, University of the Pacific (Stockton), The Driftwood (Oakland), Café Paris (Sacramento), and Club Kaos (Fremont) are some of the venues the band has played over the years.

The band can be classified as Modern Rock, but has various influences. U2, Our Lady Peace, New Order, Depeche Mode, all come to mind when hearing their music. 101 continues to be a driving force in the San Francisco Bay Area's diverse music scene.
