KEIMA is the project of yours truly, Keima Ohi. My music is alternative rock with an electronic edge. I like technology, but the songwriting always comes first.
Why this name?
It's my first name. It's pretty original.
Do you play live?
I do like playing live, but at the moment I don't have a band, so when I do play live, it's mostly acoustic. I'd love to present my work in a live setting though, with a full band in all of its theatricality.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that the internet is a fantastic way for independent musicians to gain exposure, and form friendships and collaborations with other musicians. It gives a voice to those who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to have one, given the commercial and exclusive nature of the mainstream music industry. It allows people who are really passionate about music to find music that really moves them.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but only if I were allowed to maintain creative control of my music.
Band History:
In the making.
Your influences?
Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Tool, Alice in Chains, Jeff Buckley, Skinny Puppy, The Doors, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Smashing Pumpkins, Killing Joke, David Bowie, Gary Numan, Einstuerzende Neubauten, PIG, Tori Amos, Michael Penn, The Replacements, Radiohead, Eurythmics, The Cult, The Church, Imperative Reaction, Soundgarden, Peter Murphy, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Black Crowes, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Enya, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi, Antonin Dvorak, classical music in general.
Favorite spot?
I don't think that I can name just one. Besides I still need to do a lot of traveling in order to answer that concretely. I really like Seattle though.
