Grasping the concept of the Encycliption and using it as our basis was unique in itself. As a family we developed ideas and concepts, and talked of reasons for completing and existing. With productivity ahead and a fresh set of ideas, we created pieces of music written in the mind frame in which any person could relate to. Effectively our sound has grown into a mystery, at least to us. Using meaningful subjects and powerful messages, we try to become in tune with our very beings through our own devices, letting us expand in every direction possible. An endless path sitting ahead, we communicate through sight, sound, and motion, helping one another feel accepted within our atmosphere. To us, it all seems dark and meaningful. What it may seem to you does not matter to us. It's your mind...
Why this name?
M.A.T.E came originally from Mind and the Encycliption. Mind and the Encycliption came from first, the word Encycliption alone, which we ourselves introduce to the English language. It has a varietal meaning, similar to Epiphany, without the religous overtones of course, Education, Eclipse, Enlightenment, Encyclopedic, and such. All words based rooting from knowledge based experiences.
Do you play live?
Mainly, the NW Indiana area, but we are in the process of expanding our radius significantly with shows planned in Michigan this summer, and where ever else our music will take us.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We bring not only with our name and approach, a different, unique sound. With heavy focus on all facets, Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Scratches and Samples, we have a diverse arsenal to craft what we do, to shape a sound not found in modern music, spare pop culture referencing.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Any means to spread our message, and our belief that music doesnt have to be cookie-cutter, we are willing to explore. Whether its a major, an independent, or our own will to let the world hear us, we will do whatever is necessary.
Band History:
The majority of this band [Ed, Jeff, DJ H-Bomb, and Adam] were a theatrical speed metal outfit with no bassist and a different drummer. Upon their drummers departure they sought out new members. Bringing in Scott on bass, and Brent on drums,[both formerly of other local acts] a new style and sound was sought.
Your influences?
We enjoy well thought out, oddly structured, technical and precise songwriting. No standards or similar methods are used, we craft each song as a solitary piece of work.
