Hot Toddy started out as a solo act in coffeeshops back in 1994 in Minneapolis, performing originals, with covers including: Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Roy Orbison and Dean Martin. Songwriter, guitar player and lead singer, Todd Eckart moved to Duluth, MN in the summer of 1996 and slowly formed a 5 piece band. Playing with some of the most talented musicians in the Northland has made Todd a thriving musical force. His music is original and the band is in the latest stages of their debut CD. One of the most recognizeable band names in the area, Hot Toddy, is the main attraction at the Annual Dragonboat Festival held at Barkers Island in Superior, WI. with the crowds well over 2,000. Every January 8th (Elvis' birthday) Todd dons a black leather suit, sideburns(real)& gathers up a slew of musicians to create an Elvis Birthday Special. Todd is by no means an impersonator. Just a special tribute concert once a year in honor of the King. This past year, the concert was sold out as over 300 attended to witness the "King Creole" recreation from 1958. With jazzy and Louisiana stlye horns and hip shaking tunes, the night was an incredible success..... A CD release party will he held soon, as well as a West Coast Tour.
Why this name?
A friend named Nikki, who was very much into ALL swanky things. We'd have cocktail parties and listen to Dean Martin and old records, and she suggested the name from a song in which sultry singer: Julie London, was humming a few bars of a song called: Hot Toddy. She knew right then and there what to call me as a perfomer. It's also from the smooth, sweet, warm drink named the same.
Do you play live?
Yes, but not as of late since the studio time is taking a chunk of time.
Live performing is the best. I love to please the audience.
Many special moments, almost too may to name.. The Dragonboat Festioval was great last year. We were right next to Lake Superior on the beach playing in 80 degree weather with people dancing in the sand. The only downfall was when the sun went down, and then the bugs came out. They loved the spotlight more than us. Tough to sing with a mouthful of insects.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
In a huge way. I myself am listening and talking to musicians I never would have heard of before. It's a teriffic way to promote yourself if you jave the time, and I have plenty of that.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe, it depends on if I had some overall say on the sound production and touring schedule. Of course the real problem is always the money issue. I like handling that department by myself. At least I know what I'm spending it on.
