Happy As Larry are five friends from the south of England. Owen and Darren went to school together and grew up as great friends. They went into business together and formed Unit 6 rehearsal studios - http://www.unit-6.com - Through the Unit 6 rehearsal facility they met many new musicians. First they met a bass player, Greyum. He introduced them to Steve and shortly after that Stone, who had been rehearsing with his other band - Templeball (Not the Scottish band), stumbled drunkenly into the Happy As Larry camp and offered to sing for them. A year went by and Greyum left the group but he was very quickly replaced on bass by Woody, a guitarist who had just moved to the area. A couple of months later they went in the studio and here we are now.....
Why this name?
Wanted to use a well known saying so people would remember the name.
Do you play live?
Yes, but we are just starting out on the gigging front. Played The Joiners, Southampton as our debut and soon we will be playing The Hobbit, Southampton as part of The Unit 6 night there.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The power is changing hands. If musicians get the power to sell their music direct, and the public use their power to buy from the artist, the big wig record companies lose the power they are struggling to keep hold of.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I think at this early stage of the evolution of internet based music sales we would be stupid not to sign a record contract.
Band History:
Owen and Darren starting playing music together. Greyum joined on bass and introduced Steve. Stone joined on vocals. Recorded their first demo. Woody replaced Greyum on bass. Recorded their second demo, which is available here. We will send you the first demo if you want it, but you will have to request it because it is not as good as the second demo and some of the band are not that proud of it.
Your influences?
Captain Beefheart, Iron Maiden, Days Of The New, Counting Crows, Black Sabbath
Favorite spot?
I've got abeauty spot on my left arse cheek?
Anything else...?
Feel free to contact us. We will play for beer or smoke. Only joking, we would play for free, cuz we love it!!!
