Hypnotik has been making music since 1996, and they only get better! The Hypnotist has a degree in audio production and makes most of the beats, while Aristokrat makes all the other beats.
Why this name?
Music is hypnotic, in the sense that a listener can get completely absorbed into the music, especially while singing along and moving to the rhythm. I try to make "Hypnotik" beats that draw the listener in just a little more.
Do you play live?
We have played in the past at local clubs in Norwalk, CT, and open mics in Boston at the Middle East, but for now, Aristo is in Savannah, GA goin to school, so it's hard to.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet definitely changes the industry in the fact that music won't really be purchased in stores that much. Downloads have affected sales, but that's not the only thing that made sales decline. Music nowadays SUCKS, and there are artists who last 5 minutes, instead of a lifetime. What happened to artists like Sinatra? The Beatles? No one really cares that much anymore, and the only love that exists for artists is from those 12-year-old chicks that only like it because their friend likes it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would consider signing if they made bids on me, and signed a P&D deal. (Pressing & Distribution). I would only do it if I had all the rights to my music and would license it to the label for 3 years.
Band History:
Hypnotik got together in '96, and made two albums that were successes locally in Norwalk, CT until 2000. The Hypnotist went to school at the Art Institute of New England (formerly known as Mass Comm) and graduated in December 2003 with an audio production degree. Hypnotik continues to make music, transferring files back and forth online. Some songs were made in collaborations with Egocentrik in Germany.
Your influences?
I'm into underground style hip-hop, but I love all music. Nas, Outkast, Incubus, Nirvanna, and Dr. Dre are just to name a few influences in beats and lyrics.
Favorite spot?
Amsterdam
