I'm reppin Bridgeton, NJ, born and raised. I make music about life where I'm from, which wasn't always f***ed up, but definiately a trap that's hard to make it out of for most. A place like many, where for a minority you either end up dead, or in jail. I'm just trying to deliver what I have to offer the game, just good music. I change my delivery on every track I record so I sound different on every track. Rather it's a major or minor change, it's different.
Why this name?
I got the name BRICKS from freestyling at parties in college. I went to a school near Pittsburgh, and I used to get in a corner and spit at parties. It became popular for people to hear me flow at parties and they would ask me, "where u from?", and I'de say, "Jersey", then they would say, "ok da BRICKS, we gone call you BRICKS", and it's been the name I go by every since.
Do you play live?
No, I'm trying to make the transition now. I'm down with Inflewential Records and we working on setting up some live performences at near by colleges and other places.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
A lot, just the publicity potential, the range of audience your able to reach out to, basically the unlimited audience potential. It gets you around to that person or should I say, record exec that might hear you and say, "he's the one, we gotta get him".
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah, if they talk some real business and aint so controlling. I want the freedom to be me, not the latest fad.
Your influences?
Man, just hip-hop period. Nothing more, nothing less. Every artist thats ever contributed a song that constantly played in my head coming up. Much respect to the old school, and the new school rap, I love this music.
Favorite spot?
Man, really I haven't found one like that, but I flew to ATL before and man I felt like I was home, in Africa. I feel like the ATL is the meeca for blacks in America. It's one of the only places I've ever been where blacks running the whole sh*t. I went back in 1999 and the cops were black, the bankers, lawyers, buisness men and women, hell even the damn mayor, it don't get better than that. makes a black man feel important and finally like he's home, right where he fits in.
