Doc LikMLo hails from the CPT (Compton California). Having been rhymin since the early 80s, versitility is something that he continuously tries to pride himself on. In the efforts to make all his joints sound totally different, it is obvious that that gift is apparantly obvious song after song.
Why this name?
The name Doc LikMLo was given to him by an ex girlfriend, because it was said, "his tongue is so good, he shoulda got a doctrate".
Do you play live?
Haven't performed live in a few months, but there are shows lined up. Live performances are always the favorite. I believe every emcee enjoys that part the most.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet makes people and their music even more accessable; even when one doesn't want that. Right now, it tends to hurt major artists - especially those under major companies, but I believe it can be changed to be for the best.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Signing with a major will always be a consideration, however, I would prefer an independent.
Band History:
Welcome to the official home page of Doc LikMLo. Here, you would find out about the man, the life, and the music.
Born in Compton California, Doc LikMLo started rhyming in 1983, after hearing Run DMC live at the Garden. He then went out and copped their album, then learned every word - backwards and forwards. Already an avid poet, the transition to writing rap lyrics wasn't too far of a leap.
He took on the name of "Double Dee", which he carried for many years after. As a matter of fact, his close friends still refer to him as "Double", "Dee", or simply just "Dub". The name "Doc LikMLo" came about in 1998. It was initially a chat screen name - given to him by an ex girl friend. To him, "Double Dee" was sounding a little too old school, so he slowly moved it out, and "Doc LikMLo" in. Possessing a fetish for oral gratification, "Doc LikMLo" also seemed to fit him better.
Throughout the early years, he would entertain students and faculty alike by beat boxing or rhyming at little recess concerts. Doing spoofs off of other popular songs like "La-Di-Dadi" and changing it to "Diarrhea", or making totally original songs like "Jigaboo Edna", which was about an unattractive girl chasing him. His quick wit and sense of humor has helped a lot in the creative process and in the frequent battles he's gotten in. To this day, he will continue to add those ingredients , along with the gift of metaphoric expressions.
Never in a set, nor has he claimed to be a "gangsta" or "thug" like so many other cats out there, Doc LikMLo has prided himself on being nothing more or nothing less than a hip hop hed. However, as a result of how and where he has grown up - surrounded by nothing but than hustles , pimps, crooks, and gangstas all throughout school, he has adapted to a certain way of living and expressing. Never trying to be something that he isn't, Doc LikMLo's songs always reflect truth. Truth of how he is living and truth to events that happens around him. He doesn't speak on shooting fools up, waving flags, set trippin, beatin down h** or anything like that. But he will speak on an ex girl friend in a none complementary fashion by saying he has accepted her for what she is - so "Let A h** B A Hoe". He will also speak on the past problems that he has had with the mother of his little girl in "Stress & Drama". Though those problems have been rectified, he choose to keep it; sort of as an anthem for other fathers who feel that they are not given the opportunity to see their children.
Versatility has been something that Doc LikMLo has being trying to perfect. Making his songs sound nothing like the last is, and has always been a goal. This assures that if you not feelin one song, doesn't necessarily mean you won't feel an other.
