Mercy Woods - Est. August 2000

A mixture of styles and influences in a nice neat 4 piece package. Combining elements of Rock, Folk, Reggae, and R&B to help usher in some freshness to an increasingly stale music mainstream. Vocalist Julie Johnson and guitarist Pete Bradow add their dynamic harmonies to the solid, rhythmic foundation laid by bassit John McConnell and drummer Mike Christmas.
A music style that would feel at home placed next to the likes of Sheryl Crow, U2 , or No Doubt.
Aural pleasure at its finest.
Why this name?
Mercy Woods was a forest in Dayton, Ohio that years ago was host to a multitude of late night parties attended by a very diverse crowd of people. Old and young, black and white, all came with their chosen "medication" to enjoy the mystery and beauty of Mercy Woods.
Do you play live?
We always play live.. and will continue to play live until we are no longer.. live... aka "dead".
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We think it is a definite advantage to unsigned bands. It levels the playing field and helps give those without major-label backing a chance to be heard all across the world.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Under the right terms and conditiions... if we continue to get brown M&M's and stale Dom Perrignon backstage at our shows.. you can forget it !!
Your influences?
Ani DiFranco, Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, U2, Catherine Wheel, the Cure, Dido, Prince, Sublime, Erykah Badu, Hendrix, Kravitz, David Ryan Harris, the Police, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, ...etc.
