Billy King
Why this name?
Billy King is my stage name, my real name is William King.I was born and raised in Staten Island New York N.Y.C.I now live in Plano Texas near Dallas.I go back to new York every once in a while to Gig with my old friends in N.Y.I have been in a Band in Texas called The Electric Grapevine. That was ion South east Texasnear the Gulf of Mexico. The Golden Triangle as it is called Port arthur area where Janis Joplin was born and raised. When she became a music sensation they had abandoned her. When she went back to visit they ridiculed her, She could never go back. Its funny now how they Remember her after her death. They even have her in the Gulf coast musem.Anyway when I play down there I was well recieved. and play a lot of great events. Learned some great tunes from some great guitarist there.
Do you play live?
I played a lot of good clubs in New York and Texas ,In New York I played the Bitter End,Cafe wha, when I was sixteen. Was voted One of the best Ten guitarist in NY, In the Blues Rock catergory.I recorded Nine Long years with CleanSweep and also opened up for Foghat at the Rock Palace in Staten Island.Since Ive been in Texas I have done a lot more recording. It is much more laid back in Texas. A good place to Reflect and to write.Playing in Texas with my friend Tom Janise from Beumont Texas is a Blast.Tom runs an open mike there that is great, It takes place at the Changing Times on Tues nites, Blues and Rock all nite. When I am playing with Tom we feed off each other and come up with great ideas.I also like to play Benifits, It is most rewarding.A friend of mine from Staten Island was also a great inspiration for me his name is Billy Mann, another great guy to jam with. Also a lot of other friends in NY to many to mention here.Id like to thank them all. Right now I am playing Bass with Cliff and the cufflinks.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think mp3 online has helped a lot of Indie artist like myself to be heard. As far as Big Labels are concerned sometimes they dont know where to look for good music. Its always about the big buck. Some of the best singers and songwriters can be found on mp3.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would sign if I were asked, but I wouldnt beg to be heard,Music is supposed to be something you enjoy doing.
