Jimi Pig is the newest big band in the Des Moines, IA music scene. With a very rapidly growing and loyal fan-base, Jimi Pig is packing out shows and rocking their fans with emotionally cleansing, passionate rock crammed with no-holds-barred riffs and melodic vocals.
This is original music. Songs like "Geek", "Letting it Go", "Wasn't Wasted", and "This is Your F***ing Love Song, bi***" bring out the groove with stoney riffs, hard-hitting 'sleeper' choruses, and intense breaks. Look for a CD release this summer with lots of other great songs!

Why this name?
We named ourselves after a guitar amp that was previously owned by some guy named Jimmy. The pig-nose had "Jimmy's Pig" written across the front in white grease pencil but the "s" had worn off. So, for a year we called the thing "Jimmy Pig". At the time, we were called 'Burnt'--which sucks--and in the course of searching for a new name we landed on Jimi Pig. The amp is no longer with the band. He was a burn out.
Do you play live?
Yes. All over Des Moines so far, looking to branch out. We played with Devil With Cheese and Calous one night and the place was friggin packed! 300 peeps at least! It was cool.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I don't think it has. At least not for the better. Nothing beats a CD with artwork. If the major labels would pull their heads out of their collective asses, they would really seize things back.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes.
Band History:
Biography:
Jimi Pig has its roots in Des Moines, Iowa. Gene Waage (Lead Guitar) and Jon Kramer (Former Bass Player) began years ago jamming as friends with Gene's brother, Dustin (Rhythm Guitar) in an old farm house just outside of DeSoto, IA.
When Tony Konecne (Vocals) and Gene met while working together in a steak house in West Des Moines, something clicked. Tony began jamming with the others and soon Jimi Pig (actually, first they were called 'Burnt') was born.
Their first mission was to tackle Marylin Manson's version of 'Sweet Dreams'. As those who witnessed the early days will attest, they played it HUNDREDS of times. The fledgling band adopted one of Tony's original songs, 'Angry' and the bands first original work was soon under way. After that, the chemistry began to flow and the quest for a drummer began.
While searching for a drummer, the band played many open jams hosted by Larry Berenguel at The Hull Avenue Tavern in 2003. It became a weekly ritual. By playing the Hull, Jimi Pig was able to develop a very solid fan-base and get some great experience.
Later that year, Robert Myer was brought into the band on drums and with-in a week they played their first gig as a full band at Hairy Mary's, a romantically gritty metal bar in Des Moines. Playing two shows that night with two awesome bands, Pushing Earth and Calous, Jimi Pig solidified their presence in the Des Moines scene and have since played numerous shows with the likes of Devil With Cheese, Glass Boxx, and Tim Mahoney.
Bassist Jon Kramer was soon to leave the band for personal reasons and was later replaced by Chris Chandler, a local singer/songwriter in the Des Moines scene.
The Pig is going strong. Thank you to all of the fans who have supported us. Most of you have made it to every show and that kind of intensity and dedication is what local music is all about! Keep rockin! We love you all.--JP

Your influences?
We have a wide variety of tastes and influences, I think that is what makes our music so unique. Everything from Matchbox 20 to Korn. Nirvanna to Sevendust. Godsmack, Tool, Foo Fighters, System of a Down, Counting Crows, Filter...the list is pretty wide and long. We just love music...except country.
