Mulunjun hailed from East Tennessee and was active in the music scene in the early to mid nineties. Once on the road to actually doing something worthwhile they were sidelined by the emergence of Grunge. Mulunjun would have been right at home with the current Jam Band scene because their specialty was open-ended free-form jamming. Songs were always open for interpretation and rarely were they ever played the same way twice. Sometimes just tuning up would lead into an impromptu jam that would last for 15 minutes.
Why this name?
Some of the members were of Melungeon heritage. For some reason we decided to alter the spelling.
Do you play live?
We did. One of the most memorable moments was playing the Grassy Creek Wildlife Benefit and playing at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Some of us would, some of us wouldn't.
Band History:
Mulunjun has taken many forms over the years. One thing has remained constant: They have been a bunch of guys dedicated to making the best Damn Rock-N-Roll money can't buy. Mulunjun started around the time Saddam Hussein decided he wanted some real estate in Kuwait. It began with Brad Fletcher from Houston Texas on Vocals, Ritchie Range on Bass, Chris King on Guitar, and Michael Cradic on drums. The band played various gigs around the Kingsport, TN area. Ritchie Range and Brad Fletcher left and Chris King stepped up to the plate to handle vocals and proved very capable. Johnathan Stout (Lil' Johnny Stout) was brought in to handle the bottom end. Troy Dillow (T-Roy) was brought in to fatten up the guitars. T-Roy was around for a while then was replaced by Wes Carter. Wes stuck around for a couple of years. The band morphed into a trio called King Extra Stout with Chris King, John Stout, and Brian King on drums. Chris King and Brad Fletcher have been working together the past few years but everyone else has moved on to other things. Today Mulunjun is defunct but the music is still relevant and needs to be heard.
