Hipper Than Thou is an ill fated collection of personalities with no commercial aspirations whatsoever. Our music is less bound by style than it is by talent. All songs are limited to the 9 chords our guitarist knows. Stylistically we range from Folk, to Jazz Folk, to Electric Folk, with a little Folk Rock.
Why this name?
We had a top secret meeting of all band members, past and present, and selected the name using a discarded Florida voting booth.
Do you play live?
We don't play live due to a lack of demand.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It will wipe Hip-Hop from the face of the earth.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Actually, I just signed a deal with Columbia that will let me get 6 cd's for a penny.
Your influences?
Steve Taylor, Mark Heard, T-Bone Burnette, Jeff Johnson, Daniel Amos, Tonio K, Jonathan Rundman, Tom Waits, Bare Naked Laidies, Bob Dylan.
Favorite spot?
Preservation Hall, New Orleans.
Equipment used:
Bose 10 track, Strat, Ashbory Bass, Tenor Banjo, Pawn Shop Trombone, Variax, Chapman Stick.
Anything else...?
In olden days a glimps of stocking was looked on as something shocking, now heaven knows . . .
