AjaxTheDog is the latest project from Matt Kollock, former leader of the popular blues outfit Blue Shadows. Matt is a musical recycled virgin still trying to find his sound, working nearly non-stop on new nuggets of noise from his outpost on the vehicle-friendly west side of Madison, Wisconsin. Matt describes AjaxTheDog's infant sound as "SparkleFunk", which is an amalgam of many disparate influences including but not limited to: The Clash, B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Jeff Buckley, Freddie King, and Jim Varney. If you dig the SparkleFunk, please continue to support AjaxTheDog and feel free to drop Matt a line.
Why this name?
I named my dog "Ajax" when I was three years old and have admired my own cleverness ever since. AjaxTheDog seemed like an appropriate "band" name for my new project.
Do you play live?
No live gigs just yet, though I've played many over the last five years with my former band, Blue Shadows. Right now, I'm working on composing material, recording it and putting together a live band with the hopes of playing locally and wherever else anyone will have us.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's all about the song.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If it was ridiculously one sided in my favor giving me complete artistic freedom.
Band History:
Hey, I'm just a guy who makes music. I used to be a straight-up blues cat, but lately I'm a disparate dog. AjaxTheDog is all about expressing the repression.
