I am a up and coming DJ from London who has recently started gettin into the production side of things aswell. In the past I have only done special re-edits, intros, and bootlegs for my own sets, but the amount of ideas in my head regarding production, and the improvements in my studio and techniques has allowed me to start making my own stuff at last. I am essentially a trance DJ at heart but have a broad taste of music, spanning prog, house, trance, breaks, techno and slightly tougher edged stuff all making appearances in my sets, and now in my productions also. Hope you enjoy my music, and see my website to contact me, see gig details, radio and club tracklistings and further info...www.garyoptim.com
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I have a few views on this...

1.Unsinged bands or DJ`s such as myself can get their music `out there`, gaining invaluable exposure and with a little bit of work potential profit also. This is very positive, especially with trance, theres so much great stuff out there which wouldn`t get heard as it isn`t on a label and pressed to vinyl. From a DJ`s point of view this is really good too, as you can source upfront stuff direct from the creators and most artists are happy to get you a hi-fi version to burn to disc. This gets fresh new music into the clubs.

2.Illegal downloads and sharing are harming major record labels.

3. Legal downlaods from labels such as anjunabeats and lost language are a great initiative for the music industry, which I`m sure will continue to grow. Offering exclusive pre-release promos for the DJ`s at a fraction of the cost of a test pressing or white label, and instantly. This obviously links with the rise of the CDJ, and DJ digital technology.
Your influences?
There is no right or wrong in my eyes, only good and bad. Influence can come from the most diverse of places. My main influence is ofcourse the club scene and that whole culture surrounding it. Regardless of music policies clubs is where the music should be aimed at, not the charts. Especially with trance, the euphoria from these tunes is pure and uplifting. Hearing a huge tune in a packed club raising the roof off is what inspires me. I try and produce/structure my tracks for the dancefloor!
