Singer/songwriter from The Netherlands. Writes and sings in english with regards to some traditional country and folky styles. Produces albums in his own studio and tries to make it all sound pretty natural. As if he's playing in your own livingroom or bedroom, whatever you want..
Why this name?
Uh... it's just the name my parents gave me.
Do you play live?
I've roamed the stages in and around holland for about twentyfive years. I've been in many places and loved them all.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I'm afraid time is up for the big record companies. Now is the time for the individual artist to make it on his or her own! The internet gives us the possibility to reach the world.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If they have a good story and less arrogance... I'll think about it.
Band History:
Martin van de Vrugt stands for:
Self written songs: Since 1980 I am writing and playing my own songs. I am a singer and I play on several mostly acoustic guitars and other string-instuments like banjo, mandoline and bass. I am also a harmonica player.

Strong, lively and sometimes emotional stage appearance: In the early eighties I started playing on the streets of major dutch cities. I was young and not very tall so I had to make quite a show to get attention. These days I still move around a lot on stage but I can also be very 'laid back'. My stage shows are very dynamic and people are often very moved after listening to my songs.

Great sounding cd productions: I have my own recording-studio so I can work when-ever I like to. Other artists have already found my studio too. I have made some very inspired cd's as a solo artist and for several other great Dutch artists and bands.

Your influences?
Èh well... quite some influences. Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (also as individuals!), James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Iris Dement, The Be Good Tanyas, JJ Cale, Todd Rundren, Ryan Adams, Kim Richey, David Sylvian, etc. etc.
Favorite spot?
My home and studio and Sweden in the summer.
Equipment used:
Mostly self built
