Oh, there you are. My, I haven't seen anyone around here in ages. Wait a second there, young one; you're going to have to speak up. I'm getting a little old, and I'm afraid that the first things that go are the ears. Uh huh. Uh huh. Oh, yes! So you want to hear the story of Quiet Siege! Well, it all started long ago. . . (coming soon)
Why this name?
Huh, what's that? The band name, Quiet Siege, and what it means? My, it's been so long. Well, a long time ago, when Quiet Siege was in its infancy. Truth be told, the group skimmed the lyrics to the Smashing Pumpkins' Adore and picked out a few images that seemed the most thought-provoking. The group eventually settled on "Quiet Siege" from the song "Behold! The Night Mare!," a song not nearly as unfortunate as its title suggests. The line in the song is "I faced the fathoms of your deep / I faced the suitors' quiet siege." The band really liked the tension between the two words: the word "quiet" suggests order, peace, solitude, while "siege" suggests violence, action, choas, etc. The band also thought that it was a fantastic metaphor for its work and the artistic process in general. There is a sense in which a great work of art can affect a person so profoundly it is as if they have laid "siege" to that person's emotions or what not, and that the "siege" itself is "quiet" as far as it does not involve soldiers with clanging weapons, pirates with brandished cutlasses, or other military metaphor. However, there is a profound irony in that the "quiet siege" created by the band is not quiet at all, for it relies on sound itself to conquer.
Do you play live?
Quiet Siege, play live? Oh no, no, no. That happened once in the past and will prove to never happen again. The guitars were out of tune, the voices were cracking, and someTAG NOT ALLOWED was very mean to Quiet Siege. He is Quiet Siege's arch-enemy, and Quiet Siege went to one of his shows and laughed at him!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
With a bif, a boom, a pow, and a bang! Perhaps also with a kazooie.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Contract? What is a contract? A contract is a promise for which the law gives a remedy (2nd Restatement of Contracts). Now why would I give somebody a promise which would give them a remedy against me? A bit foolish, isn't it? I've seen VH1's Behind the Music; I know what happens!
Your influences?
Quiet Siege is mot highly influenced by the lyrical and musical stylings of the Smashing Pumpkins, especially the quieter material. Sonically, Quiet Siege is probably most similar to New Order, except Quiet Siege employs more guitars, has more complicated lyrical themes, and is less talented. Everybody loves the Beatles, and Quiet Siege is no different. Quiet Siege also borrows somewhat from the theater and conceptual sections of the David Bowie and Pink Floyd discographies.
