I am a self-taught musician and have been playing guitar for well over 20 years now. This is my attempt at distributing the music that I make here at home to my friends and anyone else who may enjoy it. It's very guitar oriented stuff along the heavier side of things.
Why this name?
Well, it's my name!
Do you play live?
Yes, I do play live. I am a member of the band, HALF TRACK. We play mainly in and around the midwest of America but hopefully we can expand on that in the future. The very first Half Track CD will be released in May of 2007 so hopefully all of my friends here can take a listen to what I do on that side of my career as well.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's incredible. There is so much out there, and chances to hear SO MANY incredible musicians. I can't even begin to name all of the online unsigned bands and guitar players that I've heard that just completely knock your socks off. Before, all you knew were the bands you went to see at a bar on Saturday night. Now, you can hear some new young gun on the other side of the globe within a few clicks of the mouse. Such a dearth of musical information. Best thing that ever happened to the music FAN AND ARTIST. Because to be an artist, you gotta be a fan.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Oh most definitely.
Band History:
As mentioned above, I've been playing for a long time. I originally started out on drums at the age of 5. Got my first guitar at age 7...and kinda picked it up, put it back down...yadda, yadda, yadda (you mean I just yadda, yadda'd guitar?)...and then got into the instrument full-bore around the age of 15. I've been recording instrumental work here out of the home for the past 10 years or so, but the digital age has really been magnificent. Gone are the days of the old analog 4-track!
Your influences?
Definitely Joe Satriani. The guy can make you leave your seat one second, and make you weep the next. INCREDIBLE player. Eddie Van Halen was an early influence. And since that time, I've gotten heavily into Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, and Brent Mason.
Favorite spot?
THE GREAT CITY OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS!!!!!!!!!!
Equipment used:
I use a ZOOM MRS 802B for recording. Best thing I've ever bought in my life. For live gigs, I'll be using an older model 5150 full stack. I use nothing for effects except for a reverb pedal. I WILL be forced to use a wah pedal when a cover song might call for it, but let me go on the record right now as saying that I absolutely hate them. At one time they were the coolest thing, but now every guitarist has to use his Cry-Baby in every solo he does. Why is that?
