The Nodal Nim project started as a songwriting exercise. For several weeks, I forced myself, no matter what, to write four songs per week. It didn't matter if the songs were any good or not, and they definitely didn't need to make any sense. On Thursday, I performed them; on Friday, I recorded them. I did this for twelve weeks, and then my first mandolin was destroyed, and I had to stop.

When I acquired a new mandolin, I wrote songs when I felt like it, at my own pace, and being a little more careful to craft them. I also set to memorizing old songs.

Now, I have a large library of songs ready to play at any time. I play gigs when possible. Rather than writing four songs per week, I continue to practice old songs and experiment with new ways to play them. I try to play all my songs a little differently every time. This is the new challenge for me, and part of the fun for the audience.
