2 stroke is the fundamental funk rock experiment from halifax, groove-based guitar/bass duo with an acid drummer. The songs have all been compiled from hours of free form jams. groovy, moody and walking the line between satire and sincerity.
Why this name?
2 people. an engine of songwriting funk.
Do you play live?
yes. In transition to the live show.
special moments: the electronica version of I's the bye, with Bad Mr. Frosty
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
More listens. Less money for the artists, but more exposure for everyone. More able to break whatever musical barriers that still may exist
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
yes, but only with a great rider. Artistic control would never be relinquished. But I wouldn't mind someone else paying for the beer.
Band History:
'79 american strat. and tobias bass. Low light and acid (files). Thouest need no more. except the odd encounter with a p-bass or guatamalan keyboardist. we formed in the stormy winter of 2004 as a distraction to the usual cookie cutter sets of music bands are supposed to play around here in order to get gigs. that's fun and all, but this is way funner. and yea, i know, that's not a word. between jams it's raquetball or pool, or racing cars. either that or miles davis and table hockey. but we actually played in 2 other bands together prior to this. work best under pressure or some sort. the best licks are on the fly. we don't rehearse anything because it's not as much fun. name a lot of working song titles after livestock, and don't take anything seriously.
Your influences?
like the chili's, radiohead, jamiroquai, and about 100 others. but enough about that, they're only what we listen to in our spare time when we're not making music, which is only about 2 hours on a friday night in order to placate the guests, or long car rides.
Favorite spot?
44 degrees and 23 seconds southeast of the magnetic north pole.
Equipment used:
roland vs2480. '79 strat (rosewood neck, solid natural wood finish, swamp-ash body). Tobias bass. pod effects. boss se70. wah. triton le keys. Some other weird guitars, including a hag. also a '76 fender precision bass. also using windows and sonar. whatdya mean especially for techno bands? The rest of us use gear too. and we got a crapload. hehe, but we always want more. the G5 is in the closet, but it'll join the mix soon. or when i get around to it. whichever comes last.
Anything else...?
anyone who wants to anymously bomb frank magazine headquarters in Halifax, will get a free lollipop, courtesy of the band. Subject to availability.
