Humming Wire is an alternative rock band looking to bring their original sound to the masses. By combining elements of rock, indie, jazz, progressive, and metal in a natural and cohesive manner, Humming Wire has created a sound that is not only unique and exciting, but transcends musical categories and boundaries.
Why this name?
We had a contest that included our friends and one of them, Scott, came up with the name Humming Wire.
Do you play live?
Yes. We have played in the Bay Area so far, from the Peninsula to Sonoma County. Highlights thus far were a couple of gigs at the Curve Bar in SF. Had great attendance and everyone had a good time.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has changed the music industry a great deal. While it is definitely easier to get your music out there, it is also easier for thousands of other bands to do the same, so a band can also get lost in the crowd. However, the Internet also has freed things up a lot, thus offering bands greater independence.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes.
Band History:
Formed in early 2003, Humming Wire is actually the reformation of a previous band the members had in the late 1990s: Ugly Stick. After an amicable split, the band members pursued different musical interests. During this time, the band members gained significant experience playing various types of music, leading to individual musical growth and maturation. After a few years apart, however, the band members realized that despite the enjoyment of playing music with other musicians, none of these musical endeavors matched the excitement and creativity originally harnessed as Ugly Stick. Wanting to start afresh and armed with bold new musical ambitions gained through the years apart, the band members decided it was time to get back together under the moniker of Humming Wire. Judging from the overwhelming positive reaction and interest received thus far, this decision has proven to be a wise one not only for the band, but more importantly, for fans of creative, original, and intense music.
